What Kills Me
An ancient prophecy warns of a girl destined to cause the extinction of the vampire race.
So when 17-year-old Axelia falls into a sacred well filled with blood and emerges a vampire, the immortal empire believes she is this legendary destroyer. Hunted by soldiers and mercenaries, Axelia and her reluctant ally, the vampire bladesmith Lucas, must battle to survive.
How will she convince the empire that she is just an innocent teenager-turned bloodsucker and not a creature of destruction? And if she cannot, can a vampire who is afraid of bugs summon the courage to fight a nation of immortals?

Where to purchase What Kills Me:
Wynne Channing
Wynne Channing is an award-winning national newspaper reporter and young adult novelist. She loves telling stories and as a journalist, she has interviewed everyone from Daniel Radcliffe and Hugh Jackman to the president of the Maldives and Duchess Sarah Ferguson. The closest she has come to interviewing a vampire is sitting down with True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard (he didn’t bite). She briefly considered calling her debut novel "Well" so then everyone would say: "Well written by Wynne Channing."
Where to find Wynne:
Thanks Franny, for these great
questions and for hosting me on your great blog. I’m super stoked to begin my blog tour on Mind Reader!
Where did you find the inspiration to write What Kills Me?
Bits of What Kills Me have been floating around
in my head for years. One night, I couldn’t sleep and I imagined a young woman
falling into a well. The image of a girl crawling out of a well covered in
blood, that’s what started it all.
Was there a scene in the book you found particularly hard to write?
Without giving anything away, any scene where one of
my favorite characters dies, is always sad for me.
Did you get inspiration from someone specific to write your characters?
Zee is a cooler, funnier, braver version of me at 17.
(If vampires were trying to kill me, I’d just cry and hide under my bed)
How did you become a writer?
I can’t remember wanting to be anything else. Telling
stories is all that I’ve ever done.
Do you have a writing process/schedule?
Since I work at a newspaper with immediate deadlines,
I write everywhere, anywhere and all of the time.
Is there a particular place you feel more inspired to write?
I love to write at coffee shops with my headphones —
and without the distraction of Facebook or Twitter (who just ate what for
breakfast?).
What is the most satisfying part of being an author?
So many readers have written me lovely messages about What
Kills Me.
Every single time I see an email or a Tweet, fireworks burst in my head. My
friends have to hose me down.
What do you usually do when you're not writing?
I teach and perform Latin dance.
Are you working on any new projects at the moment?
I’m excited to say that I’m working on the sequel to What
Kills Me!
What advice would you give to anyone who wants to start writing?
The only way to be a better writer is to read and
write A LOT. So keep at it. Finish what you start. Giving up would be like
turning off the heat just before the water boils.
